Goryu47 REPORT

2023.01.10245cm / Snowy

A ski instructor at the Hakuba Goryu Ski School (pictured, left) greeted me saying, “I love your site!” He added, “I usually take 2 or 3 runs before I start work.” The snowboarder with him (pictured, right) told me, “I ski on weekday mornings before teleworking. On weekends and holidays, I help the diggers at IIMORI PARK.”

Temperatures were warm at the foot of the mountain yesterday, which led to rain in the afternoon. Luckily, the rain turned to snow as cold air moved in overnight, and the snow was still continuing to fall this morning. There was between 20 to 30 cm of fresh snow on the upper ungroomed portions of DISCOVERY, DISCOVERY SPORT (pictured), and DEFENDER. There were hard, uneven spots on the underlying base, but I was able to float on the top and avoid hitting the bottom by going into my runs with some speed.

Strong winds blew intermittently on the upper portion of the ski resort, causing the Goryu Telecabin, all lifts in the Alps Daira Zone, Line-C, and Line-E to be suspended. Even on the lower half of the mountain, strong winds caused some lifts to slow down or stop. I was impressed to see a Hakuba Goryu Ski School instructor (pictured) working hard in the midst of the blizzard-like conditions.
[Powder Snow Course]

The last part of DISCOVERY SPORT (pictured), the Sunnyway Course, the Powder Snow Course (third photo), the Soft Cream Course, and the Toomi Slope were groomed with firm wet snow surfaces. The 3 to 10 cm of fresh snow covering them wasn’t sticky, and the conditions were good for skiing comfortably at speed.
