The connection with Tangram ended on 3/22 (Sun.), and from 3/23 (Mon.), Madarao is down to four running lifts: the No. 1 Quad, No. 2 Quad, No. 3 Lift, and the Super Quad. The FreeRidePark (pictured) remains open, and features a 4 m kicker, 3 m tabletop, mound, 10 m kicker, narrow box, 10 m rail, 6 m rail, 6 m box, and a drum feature set up.

Riders were sending big airs off the 10 m kicker, and throwing up sprays of snow that made for great shots (pictured). Inside the park, the groomed corn snow had softened, allowing for good speed and making it easy to build momentum into each feature. The low-set 6 m box looked especially approachable and fun, even for beginner park riders.

I met a couple from Saitama Prefecture (pictured) who told me, “We always read your reports! We actually saw you yesterday at Akakura Onsen, haha. We took today off, so we’re on a four-day break. We’ve been riding all over the Myoko area from Madarao to Ikenotaira to Akakura Onsen and back to Madarao.” Even on Paradise (pictured), the groomed corn snow had softened nicely and carried speed well.

Champion (pictured), Shirakaba, and Giant also offered soft, groomed corn snow that skied smoothly. With fewer people on the slopes after the 3-day weekend, I was able to open it up and lay down long, clean tracks. By the way—have you noticed? With just one week left in the season including today, Madarao still has plenty of snow all the way down to the base area.
