Temperatures climbed quickly through the day today, and the Ikenota Slope (pictured) had already softened into loose, granular corn snow right from the start. A large hole had opened up around the mid section of the run, but it was clearly marked with poles, so it didn’t interfere with skiing.

I spoke with a man from Osaka Prefecture, who told me, “I always read your reports. We came yesterday and are staying at Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba for two nights. I took advantage of spring break to come and ski with my son and grandson (pictured), and there’s actually a total of 11 of us family members spanning three generations.” Like the Mt. Hieda Forest Course, the steep Itadaira Course (pictured) was covered in loose, granular corn snow that skied smoothly.

The Mt. Hieda Forest Course requires caution. With the lower section beyond the junction with Mt. Hieda Course 1 closed, even beginners are forced onto Hie 1, where medium-sized, softened moguls have formed. I spoke with a father from Australia (pictured, background), who said, “My daughter can’t ski moguls, so she’s going to take off her skis and slide down on her bottom.” And afterwards, she did just that with great skill. After all was said and done, she summed it up in one word: “Fun!”

“I really enjoy Snownavi—it’s such a great source of information. I love the Hakuba area and come to ski five or six times each season,” said an American man living in Tokyo, whom I met first thing in the morning. I also spoke with staff members at the No. 2 Quad (pictured) who added, “Just four days remain until the final day on 3/30 (Mon.). To everyone following Snownavi, the snow should hold out, so we’ll keep the slopes in great shape and are looking forward to seeing you!”
