This morning, I met a mother from Osaka Prefecture (pictured, left), who told me, “It’s our first time at Cortina. Even though it’s already spring ski season, I’m amazed we can still enjoy scenery this beautiful! My husband and our two older sons are still asleep in our room at the Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba.” Her daughter added, “The food was really good—we all ate a lot, including my brothers!”

At first glance—especially in the first and second photos—it looks like Cortina still has solid coverage all the way down to the base (and in fact, the Ikenota Slope does still have sufficient snow). However, operations have been gradually scaled back: the No. 5 Pair ended on 3/1 (Sun.), the No. 3 Quad on 3/16 (Mon.), and the No. 1 Pair and No. 6 Pair on 3/18 (Wed.). From 3/19 (Thu.) onward, the resort has been operating with just two lifts—the No. 2 Quad and the 4th Pair—serving a total of four courses.

On the Ikenota Slope (pictured), about 1 cm of light new snow sat on top of firmly set corn, but the surface softened within an hour. I also spoke with some instructors from the Cortina Ski School (pictured), who said, “We always read your reports. Thank you to everyone who joined our lessons this season. We’ll continue offering lessons through the final day, so to all Snownavi readers, we’d love to have you join us!”

The Mt. Hieda Forest Course and the Itadaira Course (pictured) were both groomed with firm corn snow topped with around 1 cm of light new snow. On the ungroomed Mt. Hieda Course 1, 1 to 2 cm of fresh snow sat over the hard, medium to large moguls spread across the slope. At the Kids’ Park, the first—and only—kids’ event of the season will be held today starting at 1:30 p.m. (※Entry fee JPY500)
