Goryu47 REPORT

2023.02.27290cm / Sunny

From Alps-Daira, I could see fantastic views of the three peaks of the Hakuba Sanzan (pictured) and Mt. Goryu (pictured) contrasted against the blue sky. Overnight radiative cooling brought the temperatures down well below freezing early in the morning, and the groomed slopes were composed of the perfect powder snow that squeaks when walked on. The forecast today was for clear skies, so visitors were quick to show up, and many mountaineers were heading up to climb the snow-covered mountains.

On the Panorama Course (pictured) and the Grand Prix Course, the thin layer of fresh snow and moderately firm, groomed powder surface made it easy to gain and maintain edge control and turn comfortably and in control. I overheard visitors talking about how great the groomers felt.

The upper portion of Route 8 was also in good condition, with a thin layer of about 1 cm of fresh snow on top of the moderately packed, groomed powder snow. In addition to the excellent views of the Northern Alps, the distant peaks to the northeast, such as Togakushi and Mt. Amakazari, were looking so beautiful that I wanted to ride the high-speed Line-E pair again and again. The Dynamic Course was groomed with a “powdery” wet snow surface, while the Woody Course had moderately firm, wet snow.

The Toomi Slope had a well-packed, groomed wet snow surface and was buzzing with the energy of groups of students who were on spring break. The Powder Snow Course was also groomed with good, tightly-packed wet snow. The groomed Merry Land Course (pictured) had good wet snow on the top half of the course and granular snow on the last part of the run.
