According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, temperatures across the country are expected to be significantly higher than average for roughly two weeks starting on 6/17 (Tue.). Luckily, in times like these, Iwatake is the perfect place to cool off! At the Table Houses (pictured) nestled in the beech forest around the summit area, I was able to enjoy the refreshing shade while taking in the spectacular views of the Northern Alps.

I ran into a local family from Hakuba Village (pictured) who told me, “We always follow Snownavi! We go hiking and carry this little one (pictured, center) on our back, so we follow your trekking reports for Happo and Tsugaike closely. It looks like there’s still quite a bit of snow remaining up high this year.” Today’s weather was marked by sunny skies with clouds that intermittently blocked and revealed the sun throughout the day.

In conversation with two visitors from Tokyo who tried the Yoo-Hoo! Swing (pictured), I was told, “It wasn’t scary at all—just felt amazing. We’d love to ride it again!” The Yoo-Hoo! Swing gives you the thrilling sensation of soaring out into the vast nature before you, and is also a great spot for lively conversations.

This morning at HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR’s floating deck, visitors were once again taking turns snapping commemorative photos. That said, being a weekday after the start of the rainy season, the crowds arrived at a slower pace. In the shaded area created by the black sunshade in the foreground of the photo, I took the opportunity to escape the harsh sunlight and enjoy the pleasantly cool breeze.
