This morning, I spoke with a couple from Saitama (pictured) who shared, “This is our first time visiting Iwatake. The view from here is truly amazing! We were a bit worried about the weather since the rainy season has started, but we feel lucky to have such nice weather today.” Although the rainy season officially began on or around 6/10 (Tue.), in Hakuba, heavier rainfall typically doesn’t arrive until July.

I headed to Hakuba Hitotoki-no-mori to catch some visitors playing Teqball. Originating in Hungary, Teqball is a sport where players hit a ball back-and-forth using their feet and head across a curved table that resembles a ping-pong table (pictured, right foreground). Later on, however, I saw a mother and child using the setup to casually serve and receive the ball with their hands like a game of volleyball. Of course, the way you play is entirely up to you!

At Hakuba Hitotoki-no-mori, there are several other free activities you can enjoy, including ring toss (pictured, front left), slacklining (center), and disc golf. Frisbees for disc golf can be borrowed at the 5sen South Lift boarding area (limited to one per group).

At the dog run in the Nezuko-no-mori forest area, dogs from Tochigi, Saitama, and Tokyo (pictured) were happily running around. “They’re all girls. This breed is highly intelligent and even used for hunting,” their owner shared. With plenty of shade keeping it cool, this forest dog run is a great spot as the weather gets warmer.
