Ishiuchi Maruyama REPORT

2026.01.23185 cm / Snowy

The officially reported base depth, which had dropped to 110 cm on 1/20 (Tue.), jumped to a season-high 185 cm thanks to the arrival of the strongest and longest cold wave of the winter. I spoke with a resort staff member who told me, “On snow days, the ungroomed Devil Downhill is especially popular.” First thing this morning on the Sunrise Line (pictured), I was able to enjoy both the groomed powder down the center and the soft, fluffy powder along either side.

Before the lifts heading toward the summit (the Central High-Speed Triple and Kanko No. 3 Express) began operating at 9:00, the question was where to ski first. I headed into the Hopi Hiller Course (pictured) alongside the Tirol Triple Lift, which started running at 8:30. The groomed powder was pleasantly soft and easy to flow through, after which I lapped back up and connected via the Kanko No. 3 Express to the Summit High-Speed Lift.

In front of the Kanko No. 3 Express, two visitors from Tokyo told me, “We came to Ishiuchi Maruyama for the first time to ski with a friend who works here. We’re heading to the tree run area near the summit first.” The Summit Slope to the Ridge Course was groomed with well-set powder, while the Central Traversing Course (pictured) featured moderately soft, groomed powder snow.

On the Giant Course (pictured), roughly half of the run consisted of groomed powder that was moderately firm, while the remaining ungroomed section offered a great balance of soft natural undulations and 15 to 20 cm of fluffy new snow from last night. The snow that had been falling on and off since the morning eased around 10:30, and blue skies gradually spread overhead.
