Kurohime has the perfect balance of groomed runs and fresh snow that only a large-scale ski area can offer. Thanks to the strongest and longest cold wave of the season which lasted from 1/21 (Wed.) to 1/26 (Mon.), snowfall increased dramatically, blanketing Kurohime Kogen Snow Park in abundant, high-quality snow. This morning, the Weasel Course (pictured), where you can ski off-leash with your dog, featured a moderately soft groomed surface.

At the Dog Run near the top of the No. 7 Pair lift, a dog named Sydney (pictured) was happily chasing after balls thrown by his owner from Tokyo, who commented. “Kurohime has open areas where I can play with my dog, and the facilities are really well set up, so we come here often.” Around 10:30 a.m., the groomed snow softened slightly under the sunshine, but my skis still ran smoothly, creating great conditions for both skiers and dogs to stretch their legs.

In the Snow Dog Area on Dog, Bull, Tiger, and Weasel (pictured), many ungroomed sections remained, and dogs were sending up spray as they ran. Since it wasn’t immediately after a fresh snowfall, the snow felt a bit heavier today, but on a snow day, you can enjoy powder runs together with your dog on the steep pitch in the midsection of Weasel.

A woman visiting from Osaka with her dog Hyogo (pictured) told me, “He’s eight years old and already a bit of an old guy, but he loves running and is itching to go, haha. After this, we’re meeting up with a friend who also has a husky and we’ll ski the Dog Course together.” Skiing with dogs on leash is allowed on Dog, and today it had groomed wet snow packed to a moderate firmness, while Bull, where off-leash skiing is permitted, offered a moderately soft, groomed wet snow surface. Both provided easy-to-ski—and easy-to-run—conditions.
