Goryu47 REPORT

2026.02.04300 cm / Sunny

After the two cold waves and associated snowfall that rolled through in mid-January, we finally woke today to a clear blue morning. Radiational cooling brought especially cold temperatures at the base, and the groomed snow squeaked underfoot was a sure sign of prime powder conditions as a result. I spoke with a patrol member who told me, “Today the grooming and the views are both excellent. Just watch your speed and enjoy it.”
[Panorama Course]

The wide, freshly groomed Grand Prix Course (pictured) had an ultra-flat surface composed of firmly-set powder snow. With conditions ranking among the best of the season, my stoke kept rising with every turn. With the type of sunshine that already hinted at the start of spring, I found my body warming up quickly as I skied relaxed, flowing carving turns.

The Panorama Course and the upper section of Route 8 (pictured) were groomed with moderately firm powder snow bases. Both felt slightly softer than the Grand Prix Course and were equally easy and enjoyable to ski. I’m happy to report that powder conditions continued all the way to the bottom as I skied down via the groomed Dynamic Course → Woody Course → Toomi Slope → Powder Snow Course → Soft Cream Course.
[Upper Route 8]

Around 6:30 a.m. this morning, the temperature display near Michi-no-Eki (Roadside Station) Hakuba along National Route 148 read –13°C. In the still air and crystal-clear atmosphere, I set up my camera and waited. Around 6:45 a.m., the ridgeline of the Ushiro Tateyama Range (Mt. Goryu pictured) slowly began to glow red in the morning light.
