The dry snow that had been falling since the early morning hours eased around 9:00 a.m. “Hey, there’s the cameraman! Look—wave to him!” someone called out, followed by, “This is a little scary!,” from a father and child riding the No. 13 Single Lift (pictured). Up top, the resort was wrapped in rime ice and drifting fog, creating an otherworldly, dreamlike atmosphere.

The Ocean View Course (pictured) had about 5 cm of light, dry new snow sitting atop a firmly set, groomed wet snow surface, turning the surrounding trees into a beautiful “tunnel of rime ice.” I kept my edges fairly flat, soaking in the quiet mood and the delicate feel of the fresh snow. In contrast, the ungroomed upper Crystal, lined with a series of small-to-medium firm rolls, had picked up 10 to 15 cm of dry new snow.

Giant (pictured), which was freshly groomed just before the resort opened, offered moderately soft packed powder. My skis ran comfortably, sending up snow spray as I picked up speed. A woman from Nagnao prefecture I met along the way said, “Thank you for using us in the fourth photo of your recent report! The two of us couldn’t stop laughing! lol”

From the Super Quad unloading area, I traversed over to Crystal (pictured), then skied the Heidi Connection Route before heading back toward the Super Quad base. The traverse, Crystal, and Heidi Connection Route all had about 5 cm of dry new snow on top of well-set packed powder. I enjoyed long, sweeping turns on the wide-open Crystal Course, while on the Heidi Connection Route I played around using the side slopes and natural terrain.
