This morning, I spoke with a patrol member (pictured) who told me, “I’m glad it snowed yesterday instead of raining—and it was a good, steady snowfall at that. The No. 9 Pair had to suspend operations from midday due to strong winds, so there’s untouched fresh snow waiting up top on the Sky View Slope. But the grooming is fantastic today as well!” It was a calm, mostly cloudy morning with the sun breaking through from time to time.

The Highway Course (pictured) featured well-packed groomed powder, and I was able to build speed smoothly and comfortably. I ran into a snowboarder from Shiga Prefecture (pictured, wearing yellow) who commented, “I always read your reports! I’m here with two friends. We arrived yesterday and are here until Sunday. The groomers today are perfect for carving.”

The Wakaguri Central Slope offered moderately firm, easy-to-ski powder grooming. At the Kids Area, I had a chat with a mother from Kyoto Prefecture who told me, “We just arrived. This little one (pictured) is full of energy, but Dad is resting at the lodge after the drive. We’ll be skiing until Sunday.” On 2/15 (Sun.), in addition to “Ski Kids’ Day,” a snowmobile experience, complimentary servings of tonjiru (pork miso soup), and a wooden sled experience event will take place.

Both the Satomi Ridge Course (pictured), which featured groomed, well-packed moist snow with a powder-like feel, and Satomi Central Slope, with firm moist snow grooming, allowed for smooth, comfortable turns. A snowboarder who had just descended from the Sky View Slope told me, “There was about 30 cm of soft powder in the snow drifts in the wind-loaded areas. Of course, it felt amazing!”
