Night skiing at Goryu runs through late March. Once daytime operations on the Toomi Sky Four end at 4:50 p.m., grooming crews head out, and by the time night skiing begins at 6:00 p.m., both the skier’s-right side of the Powder Snow Course and the Toomi Slope (pictured) have been freshly groomed. It feels just like first tracks in the morning, with a smooth, flat surface waiting from the very first turn.

The Powder Snow Course, newly added to the night skiing lineup this season, featured a hardpacked, granular snow surface. Small snow clumps were visible, but edge grip remained solid. Some riders could be seen repeatedly dropping into the mogul lane along the light towers (pictured, background left).

The Toomi Slope was also groomed into a firm, granular snow base. A Goryu staff member (pictured) I met commented, “Thanks for covering us! Night skiing is a rare chance for us staff to enjoy some laps too.” Don’t forget to print out the night skiing discount coupon available on Snownavi and present it at the ticket counter.

The following morning, a deep blue sky contrasted sharply against the pure white ridgeline of the Northern Alps. Routes 5 and 6 were groomed into moderately firm, moist snow with a powder-like feel, while the lower section of Route 1 had well-set groomed moist snow. Early on, very few people were skiing the lower section of Route 1 or Route 7, making the area along the Gondola Line-8 a surprisingly good place to get in some quiet practice laps on a weekend.
