Reservations are now open for the 2026–27 winter season at Okushiga Kogen Hotel, a storied mountain retreat long favored by members of Japan’s Imperial Family, dignitaries, and leading cultural figures. Set at an elevation of 1,500 meters amid the natural beauty of Joshin’etsukogen National Park, the hotel welcomes guests with a fireside lounge, a panoramic public bath fed entirely by mountain spring water, and warm, Scandinavian-inspired guest rooms finished in natural wood. Okushiga Kogen Ski Resort is, of course, right outside the door. For dinner, guests can choose from French cuisine, Japanese cuisine, tartiflette (a traditional dish from the Savoie region of eastern France), or teppanyaki (available for a limited period from 1/3 through 3/6).
