On 1/15 (Sat), “Dosojin Festivall” as known as “Nozawa Fire Festival” will be held in Nozawa Onsen. This festival has 300 years of history and designed as the Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property in Japan. It is also known as one of the biggest fire festivals in Japan (*1). The villagers will try to burn down the shrine with their torches, while men aged 25 and 42 (Ages which are considered as most unlucky years in Japan) will protect it against them.

*1 … There are various opinions and they pick up 3 out of Dosojin Festival (Nozawa Onsen), Taimatsu Akashi (Sugakawa City, Fukushima), Kurama Fire Festival (Kyoto), Nachi Fire Festival (Wakayama), Koda Fire Festival (Notojimamachi, Ishikawa), Oniyo (Kurume City, Fukuoka), Oni Sube (Dazaifu City, Fukuoka).
*2 … The entrance ticket will be required to enter the festival area. The ticket will be given to the villagers in Nozawa Onsen and people who stay in Nozawa Onsen on the day. In addition, the accommodations on the website of Snownavi will give the ticket.
