From 5/19 (Mon.) to 5/23 (Fri.), the HAKUBA YOO-HOO! FESTIVAL is on pause, and in preparation for the weekend’s outdoor concert series, Skyark will be closed on 5/23 (Fri.). This morning at the summit area, where the grass is now lush and green (pictured), I overheard a staff member from the Musashino Culinary Institute sharing with their group, “Today marks the final day of our training, where we experienced team building, outdoor cooking, rice planting, and miso-making.” One of the students added, “These past three days were so much fun! I’d love to come back to Hakuba one day as a chef.”

By the way, the HAKUBA IWATAKE MTB PARK has been open since 5/16 (Fri.). Mountain Carts and the “Rental MTB + Hitotoki Downhill Experience” also kicked off on the same day, while the horseback riding attraction began on 5/17 (Sat.). This morning, despite a thin covering of clouds, it was warm enough to break a sweat simply by moving.

Because of the warm temperatures, many visitors at Chavaty Hakuba could be seen relaxing with cold drinks or enjoying the new “White Peach Jasmine Tea Soft-Serve” (¥680), which debuted on 5/17 (Sat.). A gentle, refreshing breeze from the south occasionally swept through the area, making it a perfect day for lounging on the lawn. (The Mountain Cart and “Rental MTB + Hitotoki Downhill Experience” course is visible in the background of the photo.)

Looking back at the start of the morning—I noticed a tough-looking guy taking photos at HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR (pictured), and to my surprise, it turned out to be the owner-chef of Teppan Dining Yamanami, known for its delicious Shinshu beef! He greeted me warmly, saying, “Oh, you’re with SnowNavi! Thanks for everything you do. I’m here accompanying the training trip for the students from the Musashino Culinary School.”
