Today, we’d like to introduce some of the exciting rides that Iwatake Mountain Resort has to offer. First up is the brand-new Iwatake Gondola (pictured, total length 2,133m), which made its debut in December of last year. Despite its large, spacioius cabins, it offers a remarkably smooth ride even on windy days. This morning, from the quiet interior, I enjoyed stunning views of the Northern Alps, Mt. Hiuchi, Mt. Amakazari, Mt. Myoko, and the fresh spring greenery spreading across the HAKUBA VALLEY.

The Buggy Cruise (pictured, JPY2,000 per ride for adults, JPY1,000 for children aged 4 through elementary school) was running regularly this morning between the front of Skyark, the Chuo Kosoku (Central High-Speed) Lift area, and the View Slope. One key highlight is that the ride is guided by staff members driving the buggy, and pets are welcome to join as well. As during my previous visit, the view toward the Happo area from the 5sen South Lift (total length 752m) was absolutely stunning.

The Mountain Carts (JPY2,000 per run), which race 1.4 km downhill from the summit to Hakuba Hitotoki-no-Mori, were once again a popular attraction this morning. “The weather and the view are both amazing today! I definitely want to come back,” was the comment from a visitor from Tokyo (pictured). I also spoke with a father from Aichi Prefecture at HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR, who shared, “This is the highest altitude my 3-month-old daughter has ever been to. I hope we keep raising the bar together—and one day, that we stand atop Mt. Shirouma together!”

Of course, mountain biking at the renowned Hakuba Iwatake MTB PARK—one of Japan’s top parks in terms of the number and variety of trails—is also a must-try riding experience offered at the resort. And since it does technically fit the definition of a “ride,” horseback experiences (lead-rein rides and horse trekking), which started on 5/17, are currently available as well! After enjoying all the fun, I took a break from the strong sun and cooled off on the breezy Glacier Deck (pictured).
