Iwatake REPORT

2026.05.16Hakuba Iwatake / Sunny

The season of fresh spring green has arrived at the top of Iwatake. The opening day of the “HAKUBA Yoo-Hoo! FESTIVAL,” being held on 5/16 (Sat.), 5/17 (Sun.), 5/23 (Sat.), and 5/24 (Sun.), brought warm sunny weather that felt comfortable even in just a long-sleeve shirt. Many visitors relaxed in the tipi tents (photo) and forest seating areas, where the sunlight filtering through the trees created a peaceful atmosphere.

The “Opening Act” performances on the special stage set up in front of Sky Ark (※all shows free to attend) began with a performance by Shinshu Otari Taiko (photo) and a “theme park dance routine” by a local children’s dance team. The powerful drumming of Shinshu Otari Taiko, which placed second in the 2025 Nagano Prefecture Junior Competition, gradually drew more and more people toward the stage.

During the live performances, Kano Nojima, Beverly, and Maruri (photo) each performed six songs. Maruri (photo), appearing at Iwatake for the first time, commented, “This is my first time at Iwatake. It’s absolutely amazing!” In addition to songs like “Kimiwazurai” and “Sukidayo,” she also performed part of her new song “End Roll,” which will be released later this month, in an a cappella arrangement.

After the live music, roasted marshmallows were served in the beech forest, while minestrone soup made with Shinshu-grown mushrooms was offered beside the special stage. The evening then continued with the “Night Bubble Show” (photo) and a fireworks display. During the Night Bubble Show, children and adults alike reached out to catch the bubbles of all sizes created by AWABITO as they floated up into the night sky.
