Cortina REPORT

2024.02.25152cm / Snowy

This morning, 2/25 (Sun.), an exclusive First Tracks session limited to overnight guests at the Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba took place at 8:00 a.m. I spoke with a large group, and four of them from Gifu Prefecture (pictured, back row) told me, “We’ve known about Cortina for a long time, but this is our first time here. The runs are nice and wide and the snow quality is good.” The other two visitors from Aichi Prefecture (pictured, front row) added, “This is our third time to Cortina. The food is delicious. This is our first time to join the First Tracks session.”

The Ikenota Slope was in very good condtion for skiing, with a moderately firm, groomed wet snow surface. I caught up with the father of a family from Hyogo Prefecture (pictured) who also participated in the First Tracks session, and was told, “I love your site! The roast beef for dinner last night and french toast for breakfast this morning were great. It was great to be able to draw tracks on untouched slopes!” The next First Tracks session will be held on 3/3 (Sun.).

A cold northerly wind was blowing, and snow began falling around 8:30 this morning. The Hiedayama Forest Course (pictured) and Itadaira Course were groomed with hard, granular snow surfaces topped with about 1 cm of light, fresh snow. The ungroomed Hiedayama Course 1 had a series of small, hard packed moguls that made for difficult conditions.

The temperature at the base area was comfortable before the start of business, but later on it felt colder due to the brisk winds from the north and the falling snow. I had a conversation with the mother of a family from Toyama Prefecture (pictured), who said, “This is my first time to visit Cortina. My father and brother are off skiing. We’re going to do some sledding, then go warm up in the hotel’s hot spring.” The annual Kids Park treasure hunt will be held on 3/3 (Sun.). (*Gather at 10:00, start at 10:30.)
