Around 6 p.m. yesterday in Minami Uonuma City, large, moist snowflakes were falling steadily. On 11/19 (Wed.), a mix of snow and rain tapered off around 8:30 a.m., and the weather began to improve. Before long, the clouds parted to reveal Ishiuchi Maruyama Ski Resort (pictured) blanketed in white—and its vast scale and stunning beauty were enough to make my heart race.

At the base-area Sunrise Express station (pictured), there was a fresh 15 to 20 cm layer of moist new snow. I spoke with a staff member, who told me, “It came all at once, so the snow clearing has been tough.” And there’s more news—Ishiuchi Maruyama Vacation Rental is a brand-new lodging option making its grand opening this season inside the resort-side condominium complex Twin Tower Ishiuchi.
