The green season at Nozawa Onsen kicks off with the Takenoko Matsuri (Bamboo Shoot Festival, 6/20 to 6/29), along with special spring operation of the Nagasaka Gondola from (6/21 to 6/29). You also don’t want to miss the Nozawa Onsen Asaichi (Morning Market), starting at 6 a.m. on 6/22 (Sun.) and 6/29 (Sun.)! Now in its 15th year, the Takenoko Matsuri features a variety of seasonal dishes made with nemagaridake wild spring bamboo shoots (pictured), including soups, rice dishes, and curry.
