Stay by the Sea, Ski the Mountains
Overlooking the Sea of Japan, Nou Harbor Villa is a private villa designed for skiers and snowboarders. It is a 5–6 minute walk from Nō Fishing Port in Itoigawa City and a 10-minute walk from Marine Dome Nō. Supermarkets and home improvement stores near JR Nō Station are a 5-minute drive away. The location keeps the villa clear of the inflated prices often associated with inbound tourism, and it is also an ideal base for chasing the best snow conditions.
Charmant Hiuchi and Arai Resort, both known for some of the heaviest snowfall in Japan, are just 30–40 minutes away by car. Akakura Kanko Resort is about 50 minutes away, Madarao Kogen Ski Resort about 60 minutes, Hakuba Cortina and Hakuba Norikura Onsen about 70 minutes, and Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort about 90 minutes. You can pick whichever resort has the best powder on the day, then come back to fresh local seafood at refreshingly reasonable prices.
The newly renovated interior features tables and shelves made from reclaimed wood, with maritime-themed décor throughout. On the second floor, a spacious living and dining area comes fully equipped, including a high-performance oven from the German premium appliance brand Miele. Guests can shop for seasonal ingredients unique to Nō, such as beni-zuwai crab (red snow crab), and enjoy cooking and dining together.
Five Bedrooms
The villa has five bedrooms. The first floor has a room with a queen-size bed. The second floor has four rooms: one with two single beds, one with a single bed, one with two single beds (pictured), and one with a sofa bed (pictured). Each bedroom has its own air conditioner, so guests can set the temperature to suit their comfort. The queen bedroom also has a private shower room, washbasin, and toilet.
Two Bathrooms and a Sauna
The shared bathroom on the second floor (pictured) has a generously sized bathtub and a large shower head. A washbasin is located down the hallway from the changing room. Next to the entrance on the first floor, you’ll find a sauna and a cold plunge bath made from a sake barrel, perfect for cooling off after a sauna session.
A Perfect Base for Summer Adventures, Too
The third-floor free space (pictured) looks out over Nō Fishing Port to the Sea of Japan. In August, it becomes the best seat in the house for the Nō Furusato Seaside Fireworks Festival, with fireworks launched from nearby Benten Rock. Summer also brings swimming at nearby beaches and cycling along the Kubiki Cycling Road, which follows the route of a former railway line. The villa is also a convenient base for day trips by car to Joetsu, Toyama, Kanazawa, and other destinations in the Hokuriku region. From the outside, the building blends naturally into the fishing-port townscape.
Why not come to Nō, a town blessed with an abundance of fresh seafood, and enjoy superb food and some of Japan’s finest powder snow?
