Happo REPORT

2025.09.21Happo-One / Intermittent Rain

The “HAKUBA Mountain Festival 2025” took place on 9/20 (Sat.) & 9/21 (Sun.) across three venues: the Hakuba Ski Jumping Stadium (pictured), Happo’s Usagidaira, and Snow Peak LAND STATION HAKUBA. This was the first edition of the event in Hakuba, giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy performances by artists from Japan and abroad at three separate locations in the village. Over the two days, a total of 27 acts took the stage, including Shonan no Kaze and Dai Hirai.

On 9/21 (Sun.), the venue started to come alive around midday, and by the time singer-songwriter Dai Hirai (pictured, far right) took the stage at the Hakuba Ski Jumping Stadium at 4:20 p.m., a large crowd had gathered. His gentle vocals resonated throughout the venue, and the set concluded with a huge encore—prompting him to perform five additional songs.

At Usagidaira, which was accessed via the Happo gondola, the OAKLEY TERRACE (pictured) served as the venue. Over at Snow Peak LAND STATION HAKUBA, where a special weekend market was being held concurrently with the event, singer-songwriter Kanau Matsumura, who was visiting Nagano Prefecture for the first time both privately and professionally, gave a stirring performance. The intimate setting allowed the audience to enjoy her singing at an up-close-and-personal distance that felt almost like a street performance.

A row of food trucks were also on hand at the Happo No. 6 parking lot near the Hakuba Ski Jumping Stadium. Two visitors from Matsumoto (pictured) told me, “I was looking up information about Lavt concerts when I found out about today’s event, so I brought my friend here who’s a fan of Dai Hirai. We’re about to have a late lunch.” The weather cleared up by evening (pictured, first and second photos), but during the day (third and fourth photos), it alternated between light rain and dry spells, with the wind making it feel chilly at times.
