Happo-one REPORT

2023.03.28190cm / Partly Cloudy

On 3/26 (Sun.), the route from the south side of the Shirakaba Slope down to the gondola base station closed, along with Nakiyama’s Public Course, which means it is no longer possible to ski down to the base of the mountain. On the same day, the Kitaone 3 Pair and Sakka Kitaone Quad also ceased operation for the season. As of 3/27 (Mon.), the only way to the resort base is to ride the Gondola down. (*The Kokusai 1 Pair will be in operation on 4/1 (Sat.) and 4/2 (Sun.).)
[Usagidaira Slope]

It was a calm spring morning with a mix of sun and clouds. The first half of the groomed southern route of Usagidaira (first photo) had a crusty granular snow surface, while the surface on the second half was noticeably softer. I enjoyed skiing fast through the cold morning air in the groomed area along the Kurobishi 2 Quad (pictured), which also had a moderately soft, granular snow surface.
[Kurobishi Slope]

On the Skyline Course, which had a loosely packed, groomed granular snow surface, the further I skied down the course, the softer it became and the deeper my edges sunk into the snow. There was a large area of exposed ground in the center of the course (pictured) towards the end, but it did not hinder skiing. There ungroomed aspects of the course had a moderately firm, bumpy and uneven surface.
[Skyline Course]

There were large, hardpacked moguls on the steep, ungroomed slopes along the Kurobishi 3 Pair and Alpen Quad (pictured). The groomed Riesen Slalom Course had a crusty, granular snow surface, and the width on the last half of the run was equivalent to that of two to three grooming machines. In other news, the Happo Riesen Quad is scheduled to remain open until 4/2 (Sun.).
