Happo-one REPORT

2023.12.1480cm / Partly Cloudy

The day after tomorrow, 12/16 (Sat.), marks the start of the free shuttle bus service (PDF) connecting Happo’s gondola base station and other Happo slope areas to the Iwatake gondola base station, Tsugaike gondola base station, and major hotels. The starting point for this service is the Hakuba Happo Bus Terminal (pictured), which is also the departure and arrival point for express buses from JR Hakuba Station and JR Nagano Station, as well as from Shinjuku, Osaka, Kyoto, Kyoto, and more.

The Hakuba Happo Bus Terminal features courier service, shops, coin lockers, changing rooms, foreign currency exchange machines, restrooms, a small Montbell store (9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.), and the Machi Bus cafe (pictured, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) in addition to the bus ticketing counter. The Machi Bus cafe sells authentic espresso, tacos, burritos, and more.

There are three restaurants open within the resort itself at the moment: Sun Terrace Panorama, Usagidaira Terrace “Yeti” (opening at 8:30 a.m.), and Rest House Kurobishi Bear’s Cafe (opening at 9:00 a.m.). Sun Terrace Panorama currently offers five types of pasta prepared by a chef trained in Italy, fish & chips, churros, and other options.

As for the slopes, the three open areas have remained ungroomed since 12/12 (Tue.) in an effort to preserve as much snow cover as possible during this period of warm weather. With the lack of grooming, the hard wet snow surfaces of each slope are marked with tracks and uneven areas. I was worried about the southern side of Usagidaira (pictured), but there was only one spot where the snow cover was noticeably thinning (marked with a pole). On the Panorama Course, there were some bushes and rocks protruding in spots on the lower half of the run.
