HAPPO PARKS opened today! At the HAPPO PARKS OPENING DAY event (*free participation), 17 riders from the HACHI CREW were present, including Masaki Kitae and Yuta Kobayashi. The lane-less park design was designed for a wide range of people, including families and alpine riders, to enjoy choosing and riding their lines.

Conditions in the park were fast this morning, with groomed, hard wet snow. The current lineup consists of a backside hip (pictured), a multi-kicker, a kicker, two banks, a volcano, and another backside hip. The 10:15 a.m. event session started with the crew riders in the lead, and visitors following, and began with participants hitting the first backside hip one after another.

Blue skies were visible on from Usagidaira and Kurobishi (pictured) before the start of operations, but rolling fog moved in around 8:00 a.m. and hung around thereafter. The groomed snow surfaces along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured), the central portion of Skyline, and Usagidaira (fourth photo) were composed of hard wet snow. Small hard clumps of snow could be seen scattered across the surface in places.

I spoke with a couple from Aichi Prefecture (pictured), who told me, “We love your site! We came here out to ski for the day. It looks like it’s going to snow a lot tomorrow.” In other news, Happo will be hosting a 5-week series of fireworks displays starting tonight (1/20, 1/27, 2/3, 2/10, and 2/16), which proved to be a very popular event last year. And the final display on 2/16 (Fri.) coincides with the Hakuba Happo-One Fire Festival, which starts at 7:30 p.m. Also, tomorrow, 1/21 (Sun.) is a Kids Ski Free day in which elementary school students receive a free one-day lift pass! (*Pre-school children are always free.)
