Tsugaike REPORT

2024.01.26252cm / Sunny

The two-plus days of heavy snow that began on the night of 1/23 (Tue.) has finally subsided. However, the winter winter weather system that brought the snow was still causing strong northwesterly winds on the upper slopes. There was only an additional 3 to 5 cm of new snow that accumulated overnight and into the morning on the upper slopes, but the Uma-no-se Course (pictured), which was closed yesterday, was covered with more than 50 cm of fluffy new snow.

I spoke with a father from Kanagawa Prefecture (pictured, left), who told me, “Yesterday we had a hard time because of the snowstorm, but today, since the weather has improved, it is a lot easier to ski. Oh, and there are so many international visitors everywhere in Hakuba. Somebody mistook me for one spoke to me in English, haha.” The Oya-no-hara and Karamatsu slopes were busy right from the morning, mainly with families and foreigners.

On the Oya-no-hara Slope (second photo) and Karamatsu Slope (pictured), and along the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair Lift, the groomed snow surfaces were moderately soft and powdery, and the feeling of skiing in those conditions was very pleasant. The last half of the Han-no-ki Slope and the Shirakaba Slope were also easy to ski, and were groomed with powder snow that was a little firmer than that on the Karamatsu Slope.

I chatted with three people from Fukuoka Prefecture who said, “We love your site! We’ve been hoping to have our picture taken, and have been looking for you for a long time. Thanks for making it happen. The moderately firm groomers are very easy to ski today.” They even gave me a Hakata specialty souvenir called “Menbei.” Thank you very much!
