Tsugaike REPORT

The OAKLEY RAIL (pictured), which was newly installed at TG PARKS on 1/27 (Sat.), is huge! I overheard some people commenting on how it was scary, or too much for them because it was bigger than expected. There is a lip in front for catching air and springing riders up to the rail, but you have to time your jump and have the right speed to get on top of it. It was a beautiful day to ski in the park today with clear skies and no wind.

Visitors were very quick to turn out today, and as of 7:00 a.m, the free Champion parking lot was already 90% full. The upper part of the Han-no-ki Slope along the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair (pictured) had a firm, groomed wet snow surface with a powdery feel, has “powdery” and similarly firm groomed wet snow from the middle to the end of the run. By 9:00 a.m., the surface snow had begun to turn to slush in the morning sun.

By the way, TG PARKS has two consecutive 12m kickers in the advanced lane. I spoke with a member of the ski patrol who first greeted me with a good morning, before adding, “It’s a beautiful day today. Your pictures should come out great!” With those words, I felt the pressure to get some good shots, and focused really hard on pointing my camera at riders pulling tricks in the air.

The Tsuga-no-mori Slope had a fantastic, firm powder snow surface! It was there that I spoke with the father of a family from Shizuoka prefecture (pictured, far right), who said, “I always check your site. It turned out to be a beautiful day today, didn’t it? I had my picture taken by Snownavi before, but it didn’t make it into the report. Hopefully this time…” (More pressure.) Tomorrow, 2/18 (Sun.), is a Kids Ski Free Day in which elementary school students and younger can ride the lifts for free. There will also be special 1-hour free rentals of snowracers!
