Tsugaike REPORT

2024.03.07251cm / Snow Flurries

Tsugaike Yokocho, which opened this season around Village Tsugaike, offers a number of satisfying foods, including yakitori (grilled chicken skewers)! The most popular skewer, however, is the pork skewer (pictured left, ¥700), which is made with Hakuba Pork. Other attractive menu items include jerk chicken sandwiches and wagyu gyudon (beef bowls).

Tsugaike has been blessed with signficant snowfall from the end of February to the beginning of March, and the officially announced snow depth climbed above 250 cm on 3/4 (Mon.). Light snow was falling on the upper portion of the ski resort this morning under the cover of fog. The Tsuga-no-mori Slope, Gotemba Course (pictured), and the first half of the Han-no-ki Slope had great groomed conditions overall, though there was some variation in their firmness.

I ran into members of the Kyoto Sangyo University Ski Team (pictured), who told me, “We love your site! We’re practicing our formation runs for tomorrow’s team competition in the National Student Skiing Competition at Iwatake.” The Shirakaba Slope had a groomed, wet snow surface with a powdery feel, and I was able to ski fast and make wide, sweeping turns on the broad, steep slope.

The groomed Champion Slope (pictured) also had a “powdery” wet snow base, while Oya-no-hara and Karamatsu slopes were groomed with moderately soft “powdery” wet snow. In other news, a Team Rescue Test Ride will be held on 3/9 (Sat.) in front of the Yuki-no-hiroba. Come and try out the next generation of skis and snowboards that don’t require wax!
