Happo-one REPORT

2024.04.18180cm / Sunny

Even with the unseasonably warm weather that continued from 4/12 (Fri.) to 4/16 (Tue.), the number of skiable slopes in Happo has not changed since our last report on 4/10 (Wed.), Riesen Grat, Usagidaira, Kurobishi, Urakuro, Skyline, and Panorama still open. Today, I was accompanied by Hinano Oshima (pictured), the winner of the All Japan Ski Championships’ Snowboard Parallel Giant Slalom Competition in March.

Incidentally, Oshima-san (pictured), who also competed in the World Cup for the first time this year, is an alpine snowboarder sponsored by TEAM RESCUE WAX amongst others. (*She is currently a sophomore in college). She remarked, “There is still a lot of snow, thanks to the big storms in March. I’m happy to still be able to practice here in my hometown.”
[Usagidaira Slope]

Right from the start of the morning, all of the groomed trails had loose, granular snow surfaces that my skis slid well across. The ground had been exposed across roughly 1/3 of the width of the southern part of the Usagidaira route (second photo), the southern part of Panorama was closed from the middle to the end of the course, and there was an area of thin snow cover at the top of the northern part, but other than that, nothing really affected the skiing. I enjoyed the long 2.1-kilometer run from Riesen Grat (pictured), to Usagidaira, to the north side of Panorama.

As for the Skyline (pictured), there were areas where the ground was exposed in the middle of the course (pictured) and at the end (pictured), and I expect it will be skiable only until the end of the weekend. I spoke with a man from Gifu, who said, “I love your site! People skiing at Happo have good manners, so it’s nice to ski here.” In other news, Oshima-san is wonderful! I might be turning into a fan. I also came a across a man living in Hakuba Village, who told me he was a fan of Snownavi, and added, “I was afraid my skis wouldn’t run well today because of the Asian Dust, but it looks fine.”
