I ran into Mr. Yamada from Team Rescue Wax (pictured) on the soft, slushy corn snow of the southern route of Usagidaira! He told me, “I’m here to test our new wax, ‘Super Musou ver 2.0.’ It helps repel dirt and maintains great glide and performance for a long time. If you see me around, feel free to come say hi—I’ll be happy to apply it for you free of charge!”

This morning was warm enough that a long-sleeve T-shirt or a light hoodie was just right for skiing. The groomed slope along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured) was also soft and slushy. I rode the lift with a snowboarder who told me, “I always find your reports helpful. The Panorama Course first thing this morning felt amazing!”

On the Panorama Course early this morning (pictured), the groomed granular snow base had softened just a touch, making for a smooth, fast ride. After skiing through Usagidaira and Kurobishi, I returned to the Panorama Course to find the snow much slushier. By the way, the sky today had a very unique look—perhaps it was PM 2.5, Asian Dust, or maybe even contrails?

With the warm daytime temperatures, the cherry blossoms are blooming more and more each day. At Oide Park, one of Hakuba Village’s famous cherry blossom spots, the trees are about 20% of peak, while the lone cherry tree at Nodaira has just started to flower. At this rate, some of the cherry blossoms may reach full bloom just in time for the start of Golden Week this weekend.
