At around 8 a.m. on 11/19 (Wed.), light rain was falling at the base of the mountains, but as I headed toward Joetsu Kokusai Ski Resort, the precipitation gradually changed to snow, and by the time I arrived at Hotel Green Plaza Joetsu (pictured), it coming down steadily. “I’m surprised by how much has accumulated—much more than I expected,” said a staff member. In fact, about 20 cm of moist new snow had piled up on the slope in front of the hotel.
