This morning, I spoke with a digger from the Iwatake Snow Park, who told me, “The park rebuild is progressing smoothly. Snowfall has been limited, but we’re still setting up features so everyone can still enjoy themselves. We’ll share more details on our official Instagram and other channels, so please have a look” (The reopening is scheduled for 1/24 (Sat.)). It was a calm, overcast start to the day, with dry snow drifting lightly through the air.

The Sunny Valley Course (pictured) featured firm, groomed moist snowup top, well-packed groomed granular snow through the middle, and firmer groomed granular snow toward the bottom. With a light dusting of fresh snow adding some subtle texture, I was able to carry speed comfortably all the way from the gondola summit station down to the base station.

VIEW C and VIEW D (pictured) were topped with about 1 cm of light new snow, and had a firm, moist groomed surface with a distinct powdery feel. The base really only felt hard to me near the bottom, but I was still able to link turns exactly as I wanted from top to bottom. The ungroomed sections along the sides held 3 to 4 cm of soft, fluffy new snow. There was no wind, but the cold was intense, and I definitely felt it.

The trees on the Mountain Side were coated in rime ice, and the trees on East Slope (pictured), which faces directly into the morning sun, were especially striking. The South Slope and East Slope (pictured) both featured easy-to-ski groomed moist snow topped with about 1 cm of light new snow. Kamoshika and the Front Slope will be closed from 1/23 (Fri.) to 1/25 (Sun.) due to the Aichi Prefecture Technical Ski Championships and All-Japan Technical Ski Championships Qualifier, as well as the Yokosuka & Hiratsuka City Ski Competition.
