After two major cold waves rolled through in January, Ikenotaira Onsen Alpen Blick Ski Resort welcomed February with excellent snow depth and quality. Today, from Itadaki down to the Quad Course (pictured), a light 1 to 2cm layer of fresh snow topped the groomed surfaces, creating moderately soft packed powder conditions. I enjoyed the smooth glide and that unmistakable feeling of powder snow as I went.

Midway down the mountain, patches of fog drifted in and out. The Lake View Course (pictured) offered the same moderately soft, well-groomed powder as the Quad Course, and with it being Sunday, early arrivals to the slopes quickly gravitated to the popular Itadaki → Quad → Lake View route.

In contrast to those busier runs, the Gouache tiner Course (pictured), Happy Slope, and Dream Course on the south side of the covered Ikenotaira Quad (1,622m) got off to a quiet start. All three featured well-packed powder groomers lightly dusted with fresh snow, making for smooth, relaxed skiing. Today, 2/1 (Sun.), was also “Alpen Blick Setsubun Day,” with free lift tickets for elementary school students and sweets handed out to kids in front of the Kayaba Slope Station from 10 a.m.
