Rime ice spread over the trees on the upper portion of the ski resort, where overnight temperatures dropped down to a brisk -6°C. Despite the forecast, it was cloudy and looked cold this morning, but since there was no wind, it felt rather comfortable. The 5th Pair Lift and the Itadaira One Course reopened today.

I met up with a group of 5 people (pictured) from the towns of Kiso, Minami-Kiso, and Uematsu in Nagano Prefecture who told me that they love the Snownavi site and that they always refer to the slope reports when deciding which resort to go to. They jokingly added that most of (but not all of) the time it has helped them choose well. They said that they were staying at the Hakuba Field Day Cottage and had skied Happo yesterday, before coming to Cortina today.

My skis slid well on the hard, groomed wet snow surfaces of the Ipponmatsu Course, Ikenota Slope (pictured), Hiedayama Rinkan Course, and Itadaira Course. There was a thin layer of 1 to 2 cm of dry fresh snow on all of the courses across the resort. First thing in the morning, many people headed for the Ikenota Slope, so the Ipponmatsu Course was relatively empty.

I noticed quite a few people flying down the groomed Itadaira Course (pictured), while others seemed to be enjoying the 8 or so centimeters of fresh snow that had accumulated on the ungroomed area on the right side near the top of the course. The Hiedayama Course 1, which also had about 8cm of fresh snow, was difficult to ski due to its hard, uneven base.
