Happo-one REPORT

2026.10.281 cm / Snowy

Winter made its first appearance at Hakuba Happo-One Ski Resort on 10/28 (Wed.), the same day that snow first settled on Mt. Hakuba (Shirouma) and other peaks of the Ushiro-Tateyama Range. The first snow on the slopes arrived on exactly the same date as last season and 10 days earlier than two seasons ago. Up on the Riesen Grat Course (pictured), strong northwesterly winds drove intermittent bursts of snow across the slope, making the cold feel especially harsh.

The trekking routes to Happo Pond, which will remain open through 11/3 (Tue.), had been completely transformed by the snow. Both the Happo-One Nature Trail and the Ridge Route were covered in white, with 1 to 2 cm of wet snow on the Riesen Grat Course and 2 to 3 cm near the beginning of the Ridge Route (pictured). Puddles had not yet frozen and had instead turned slushy.

The snowfall left a light coating of white down to the middle of both the Kurobishi Slope and the Usagidaira Slope (pictured). Around 9:30 a.m., breaks began appearing in the clouds to the southeast and patches of sunshine reached the slopes, although light snow was still occasionally blowing in on the northwesterly wind.
