Goryu47 REPORT

2023.02.01280cm / Sunny

The week-long cold wave that began on the evening of 1/24 (Tues.) has subsided, and this morning the weather was mild and sunny with a slightly hazy sky. However, overnight radiative cooling meant that the groomed slope surfaces were covered with that pristine powder snow that squeaked when you walked on it. By the time the resort opened for business, temperatures outside were comfortable, and I was able to ski my first run in a relaxed mood.

Both the Panorama (pictured) and Grand Prix courses had 1 to 2 cm of dry, fresh snow covering the moderately firm, groomed powder snow surfaces. My edges bit into the snow like it was sucking them in, enabling me to link together controlled, comfortable turns. I overheard other visitors commenting things like, “It feels great!” and “Amazing!”

The upper portion of Route 8 (pictured) was groomed with about 1 cm of dry fresh snow, topping off the moderately soft surface. Abundant clouds to the west hid the main ridgeline of the Northern Alps, but the peaks to the northeast, such as those of Togakushi and Mt. Amakazari, were clearly visible. The Dynamic Course and Woody Course were in great shape for skiing, with nice packed powder snow.

The Toomi Slope, which was groomed with a moderately tight, powder snow surface, had a thin covering of artificial snow made in the morning, but was still easy to ski. The Powder Snow Course (pictured) consisted of firmly-groomed powder snow, while, the snow on the groomed Soft Cream Course was slightly softer. In other news, the “OGASAKA E-TURN Trial Ride” event is scheduled to be held in front of ESCAL Plaza from 2/3 (Fri.) to 2/5 (Sat.). (*Starting at 9:30 a.m., free of charge, ID required)
