Happo-one REPORT

2023.02.14290cm / Snowy

From 2/13 (Mon.) to 2/15 (Wed.) the official training days for the 60th ALL Japan Ski Technical Championships are being held on the lower half of the area alongside the Alpen Quad, which has been groomed for the event. Temperatures were cold this morning as the low pressure system stalled off the southern coast yesterday moved away to the east, ushering in the return of a typical winter pressure pattern to the area. Dry snow was falling lightly, and the cold northerly wind, especially noticeable on the upper half of the resort, made it feel even colder than I expected.

Clouds hung over the mountain mainly between an altitude of 1,300 to 1,400 meters above sea level, resulting in thick fog on the lower part of Usagidaira, the Panorama Course (pictured), and the Skyline Course (third photo). As for the Panorama Course (pictured), the run itself was in good condition, with 1 to 2 cm of fresh dry snow topping off the well-groomed wet snow surface.

Conditioins were very similar on the southern route of Usagidaira, along the Kurobishi 2 Quad, and on the Skyline Course (pictured), where 2 to 3 cm of fresh snow could be found atop the firmly-groomed wet snow surfaces. The trees in the area were covered in rime ice, which combined with the fog to create a fantasy-like atmosphere.

The Kitaone traverse cat track was groomed with a firm, wet snow surface where the snow became more course as I skied further down the slope. Conditions were difficult on the steep slope at the first half of the Olympic Course II, which was covered with hard packed moguls. There was a very thin layer of fresh snow on the Sakka Wave (pictured), where the snow surface was composed of hard packed, groomed granular snow.
