Goryu47 REPORT

2023.02.14290cm / Snowy

Because both yesterday and the day before were relatively warm, with temperatures that stayed at or just below freezing even in the early morning, it felt quite cold this morning as more typical, colder temperatures returned and the frigid northwest wind brought carried flurries of dry snow. The Panorama Course (pictured), which was bordered by trees covered in rime ice, was in good condition with about 5 cm of light, fresh snow on top of a moderately compacted groomed powder snow surface. This was the only area that managed to barely stick out from above the clouds.

The Grand Prix Course (pictured) was veiled in fog that rolled in and out with varying degrees of thickness. The 5 cm of light, fresh snow that topped off the course was similar to the Panorama Course, but here the underlying groomed surface was composed of firm, wet snow. However, it was super flat, and the slope itself was in good shape (although visibility was poor).

On the Dynamic Course, there was roughly 3 to 4 cm of fresh snow topping things off, but the groomed wet snow surface became harder the further down I skied. The Woody Course and Toomi Slope (pictured) featured groomed granular snow surfaces. At one point I overheard an announcement saying, “Please be careful not to gain too much as conditions are running very fast today.”

The Powder Snow Course, Soft Cream Course, and Merry Land Course (pictured) were also very firm due to the snow that softened yesterday hardening in the sub-freeezing temperatures overnight and into the morning. However, the excellent grooming work and thin layer of fresh snow balanced things out and overall conditions were pleasant for repeating comfortable turns. The atmosphere this morning was very quiet and unremakable, which was a bit disappointing since it is Valentine’s Day (lol).
