Happo-one REPORT

The Japan Meteorological Agency has announced in its one-month forecast issued on 2/23 that the average temperature has a 70% chance of being higher than usual in northern Japan, a 60% chance of being higher than usual in eastern Japan, and a 50% chance of being higher than usual in western Japan. Furthermore, they have said that the La Niña phenomenon will likely end by the end of winter and normal conditions will prevail in their El Niño bulletin issued on 2/10. Today’s weather was clear and mild again, the third straight day going back to 2/27 (Mon.).

The HAPPO PARKS area (pictured) was well maintained with a fine granular snow surface that was well packed and easy to ski. During the morning, I noticed many people entering the area not only for the park elements, but also to take advantage of the groomed slope. The areas lower than the Kitaone forest road had a hard-packed, groomed granular snow surface that started to soften up around 9:30 a.m.

Despite the warm conditions during the day yesterday and the day before, the groomed area along the Kurobishi 2 Quad (pictured) was in good condition with a moderately firm, easy-to-ski wet snow surface. In other news, the Kurobishi 3 Pair (pictured, background) will start operating this weekend on 3/4 (Sat.)! On the other hand, the Nakiyama 2 Pair closed yesterday, 2/28 (Tue.), and the Sakka 3 Triple and Shirakaba 2 Pair will close on 3/5 (Sun.).

The official training days for the 60th Annual ALL Japan Ski Technical Championships will be held starting today and continue until 3/3 (Fri.), and I noticed some skiers along the Alpen Quad showing off their skills. The groomed southern route of Usagidaira had hard granular snow due to being exposed to direct sunlight.
