On 1/15 (Thu.), the impressive fire festival, known as the “Dosojin Matsuri” will be held in Nozawa Onsen! With a history spanning more than 300 years, this festival is designated as an “Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan” and is regarded as one of the country’s top representative Dosojin rituals. The highlight is the intense clash between villagers trying to set fire to the shrine, built from massive beech logs, and the men of unlucky ages (25 and 42) who fight fiercely to protect it.

Tickets are distributed only to Nozawa Onsen village residents and to those who are staying in the village on the day of the festival and wish to attend.
