Today turned into a calm, mostly sunny day with some lingering clouds. On the Ipponmatsu Course (pictured), the groomed corn snow had already softened slightly by the time the lifts started spinning, but my skis still ran fast and smooth. On the Warabidaira Slope, grooming was limited to the route branching off from the mid section of Ipponmatsu and to the mid–lower section on the north side of the No. 6 Pair, while the starting section, where snowmelt had progressed, remained closed.

With three weeks left in the season, Hakuba Cortina currently has eight runs open: Ikenota (pictured, bottom center), Ipponmatsu, Warabidaira, Rabbit, Itadaira (pictured, top center), Ikenota Forest, Mt. Hieda Course 1, and Mt. Hieda Forest. Starting next week, on 3/16 (Mon.), spring discounts will begin, bringing the price of a one-day lift pass to ¥4,500 for adults and ¥2,500 for elementary school students.

Up top, the trees were beautifully coated in rime ice. The Mt. Hieda Forest Course started off with firmly set groomed corn snow (pictured), transitioned to moderately firm corn through the mid section, and softened into looser corn toward the bottom. On Mt. Hieda Course 1, which was covered entirely in moguls, the central section featured a tidy line of especially well-shaped moguls.

On the groomed Itadaira Course, the surface gradually transitioned from firm corn snow to softer corn the farther down I skied. Visitors were slow to turn up in the morning, and even by around 10:00 a.m., the Ikenota Slope (pictured) remained relatively smooth and easy to ski despite the softening surface.
