This morning, a group of instructors from the Tsugaike Ski School (pictured) told me, “Thanks for covering us! Our school will stay open through the final day of the ski season. To everyone reading Snownavi, we look forward to seeing you for a lesson!” On the Kane-no-naru-oka Slope today, the moderately firm granular groomers had picked up 1 to 3 cm of slightly moist new snow.

The snow that began falling late last night was coming down more steadily by morning. Along the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair (pictured), 3 to 5 cm of slightly heavy new snow had accumulated on top of the moderately firm, groomed granular surface. I straight-lined the gentler upper pitch and picked up good speed as the slope steepened through the midsection.

Around the midsection of Han-no-ki (pictured), the underlying groomed surface had hardened into a firm granular snow base, and each turn produced a loud scraping sound. Even so, the feel of fresh snow—something we hadn’t had in a while—was enough to keep the stoke high and made me want to lap the Han-no-ki No. 3 Quad. On the lower portion of Han-no-ki and on the Maruyama Slope, the slightly moist new snow created a bit of drag.

At the Yuki-no-hiroba around the gondola mid-station (pictured), the “Tsugaike Entertainment Snowball Fight” will be held this weekend. In addition, 3/15 (Sun.) is Ski Kids Day, when elementary school students receive a free one-day lift ticket. Tsugaike Park will also host free Snow Racer rentals and the “Waku Waku Himo” Lottery.
