For families who want to enjoy everything Hakuba has to offer—the sky, the forest, the water—morning, noon, and night, look no further than the “Hakuba47 Play Kingdom”, which kicked off its summer season at 9:00 a.m. on 7/18 (Fri.)! A father visiting from Aichi Prefecture, who was playing with his son in the fun bike area (pictured, left of the gondola base station), told me, “We’re staying overnight and doing the Family Survival Camp Experience today!”

The base area (first photo) features a variety of attractions including Kids Land, a mini train, kids’ pool area, climbing wall, bungee trampoline, mountain bike park, and BBQ facilities. In the beech forest at an elevation of 1,200 meters, you can take on the Alpine Adventure—an authentic aerial obstacle course with four separate courses and 37 obstacles. The challenge begins with a zipline (pictured), launching from the top gondola station.

I met a family visiting from Gunma Prefecture (pictured), who told me, “This is our first time at Hakuba47. We’ve tried similar attractions twice before. Tomorrow, we’re planning to traverse from Mt. Karamatsu to Mt. Goryu.” The Alpine Area also features a sledding slope, a mountaintop dog run, and the Hydrangea Terrace.

At the water park along the Hirakawa River on the north side of Hakuba47 (pictured), you can try your hand at catching fish (iwana) with your bare hands. Since the water comes from melted snow in the Northern Alps, my hands and feet felt icy cold in less than 30 seconds. After the experience, you can enjoy the iwana (char) grilled over a charcoal fire, paid separately.
