Goryu47 REPORT

2024.02.19225cm / Rain Clouds

This morning I was greeted by four visitors (pictured) from Osaka and Nara prefectures, who told me, “We love your site! We’re stay and ski in Hakuba for an extended period. We’ve often ski past you and your camera, but we still haven’t been able to make it into one of your reports.” The sky was overcast at the base of the mountain, and fog was rolling in and out repeatedly at Alps-Daira, where a weak southerly wind was also blowing.

The Soft Cream Course (first photo) and Powder Snow Course, featured tightly-groomed granular snow surfacese first thing in the morning, that offered good grip, smooth sliding, and comfortable skiing. The groomed Grand Prix (pictured) and Panorama courses were composed of similar granular snow, but were only moderately firm. I was still able to link controlled, comfortable turns.

Despite being a Monday, it was a busy start to the day, with a long line outside the Telecabin base station even before the resort opened. At 9:30 a.m., the Dynamic Course had a moderately loose, groomed granular snow base. The Woody Course, Toomi Slope, Powder Snow Course, and Soft Cream Course were all groomed, but had a thick layer of loose snow that provided a decent amount of friction.

I spoke with two people (pictured) from Tokyo and Saitama Prefecture who told me they had seen the Snownavi site before. They continued, “We came to Hakuba on a Travel Inn bus tour, and are staying and skiing at Mont Blanc Hakuba. It was sprinkling at the base of the mountain, but we heard it might rain even on the montain in the afternoon?” In other news, the “GORYU WAVES NIGHT RIDERS” event will be held over two consecutive nights, on 2/23 (Fri., holiday) and 2/24 (Sat.)!
