Goryu47 REPORT

2024.02.17235cm / Sunny

It was a beautiful day for skiing with clear skies and no wind. It was a chilly start to the morning with the temperatures dropping down to -5℃ due to overnight radiative cooling, but after the resort opened, the warm sunshine made it feel comfortable. As was the case yesterday, the white rime ice covering the trees on the upper portion of the ski area glistened in the morning sun, contrasting beautifully with the blue sky.

Route 2 (pictured here & first photo) was groomednwith a hard packed, fine-grained granular snow surface, but my skis slid more smoothly than I expected, and I had to be careful not to gain too much speed. Most of the people getting off Line-C headed for the upper portion of Route 1, which meant that the beautiful untouched corduroy lasted on Route 2 for a long time.

The lower part of Route 8 (pictured) had a well-packed, groomed granular snow base at the start, but was harder in the shaded area from the middle to the end of the run. The groomed granular snow was firm on Route 5 and Route 6 early on, but the shaved snow spreading on the surface from the turns of skiers and boarders started to soften around 9:00 a.m. The lower part of Route 1 had a similarly firm, groomed granular snow base at the beginning that was even more hard packed lower down.

Going back to earlier in the day, I spoke with three people from Azumino (pictured) at the base area before business started, and was told, “We love your site. Today we gathered over a post on social media to come and eat at Pizza House Luis. Of course, we’re going to eat dressed like this.” By the way, the man on the far left who told me he was embarrassed that he didn’t wear cosplay, is the same one in the second photo from our report of a cosplay event at Tsugaike in January. I though it was cool to run into him again in his normal dress.
