Happo-one REPORT

2024.03.06275cm / Snowy

Happo’s snow depth has reached new season highs both yesterday and today! At the base of the mountain this morning, that heavy snow that began falling yesterday afternoon caused a power outage in some areas, and police officers were directing traffic at the Happo intersection. The ski resort was also affected by the power outage, with the start of the gondola delayed to 8:20 a.m., and the Shirakaba 1 and Nakiyama 3 Triple starting at 10:00 a.m.

There were cheers and clouds of snow rising up from the ungroomed area along the Kurobishi 3 Pair, and a Happo regular who skied down, told me, “There was about 30 cm of fresh snow, so it was better than I expected!” Along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured), the groomed, moderately firm wet snow surface had a powdery feel and was easy to ski. The groomed part of the Skyline had similar snow conditions, but was gradually becoming eneveloped with thick fog.

I spoke with a HAPPO PARKS digger (pictured), who told me, “You can enjoy the fresh powder on the sides of the course while you take a run through the park. Also, there will be an event on 3/16 (Sat.), so please check our instagram for details.” HAPPO PARKS also had good, moderately packed, groomed wet snow conditions.

The southern route of Usagidaira (pictured) had similar conditions to the area along the Kurobishi Quad; a groomed, moderately firm wet snow surface with a powdery feel. The 1cm of fresh snow on top of the groomed slopes on the upper half of the ski area was dry and light at Usagidaira and Kurobishi, but slightly wet at Skyline and HAPPO PARKS. The Sakka Slope and Shirakaba Slope were groomed with moderately firm wet snow surfaces, but the 1 cm of new snow on top provided a lot of friction and I found it slightly hard to ski.
