Goryu47 REPORT

2024.03.18290cm / Snowy

The spring skiing discounts kicked in at Goryu47 on 3/15 (Fri.). This morning I spoke with two members of the Hakuba Village Ski Club (pictured), who told me, “Our coach always checks your site, so we do too! We have been out practicing every day for an upcoming competition since spring break started.” The snow that started falling early in the morning was coming down hard by the time the resort opened for business at 8:00 a.m.

Strong winds delayed the start of the Goryu Telecabin, and snow was being whipped up on both the Toomi Slope and Iimori Slope. I had a chat with a snowboarder from Shizuoka’s Hamamatsu City (pictured), who told me they were a fan of Snownavi, and added, “I took 5 days off and have been slowly heading north, from Ontake to Nomugi Toge to Goryu47.” The Toomi Slope was in good condition, with about 1 cm of dry, fresh snow on top of a well-packed, groomed wet snow base.

The Powder Snow Course (pictured) was groomed with a firm, wet snow surface that had snowdrifts of up to 2 cm of dry new snow in spots. Six snowboarders from Nagano (pictured) greeted me, saying, “We love Snownavi! Our group of friends got together to snowboard. It’s too bad the winds mean we can’t go to the top of the resort, but we’ll sill enjoy ourselves!”

Two lanes with a series of well-packed, moderate-sized moguls are open in the middle part of the course along the 6th Pair. The Sunnyway Course had a hard-packed, groomed wet snow surface topped with 1 to 2 cm of dry, fresh snow, while Soft Cream had a firm wet snow base. In other news, the 1st High-Speed Pair will be closed from 3/18 (Mon.) to 3/24 (Sun.) for maintenance.
