There are only a few days left until the last day of the season, 3/31 (Sun.), and the base depth is still 130 cm more than on the same day last year. I spoke with a father from Hyogo Prefecture (pictured, far right), who told me, “This is my first trip back to Cortina in quite a while, since before the COVID pandemic. I just had a hot spring bath at the Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba, so I’m feeling pretty toasty.”

Later I ran into a family from Ibaraki (pictured) who remaked, “We love your site! We come to Cortina once a year to ski. The kids and their grandparents are still at the Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba breakfast buffet.” The groomed Ikenota Slope (pictured) a loose granular snow surface that my skis slid well across. The sky was cloudy and it looked like it was going to start raining at any moment, but during my time on the slopes there was only a light drizzle around 9:00 a.m.

The Hiedayama Forest Course was groomed with a moderately soft granular snow surface. Conditions on the ungroomed Hiedayama Course 1 were manageable with only small moguls and soft, slushy snow. I met two visitors from Hyogo Prefecture (pictured) who commented, “This is our first visit to Hakuba; we usually go to Hachikita. The snow is good and easy to ski today.”

A skier coming down the Itadaira Course mentioned, “The snow surface is little rough, but my skis still slid and turned smoothly.” Another man from Osaka told me, “I love your site. We are staying at the Hotel Green Plaza Hakuba for 3 nights and 4 days with my son and daughter and their family. There are 12 of us all together (grandchildren pictured), and grandpa graciously paid for the trip.”
