Tsugaike REPORT

2025.04.22225 cm / Overcast

TGPARKS pre-opened alongside the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair on 4/17 (Thu.) and had its grand opening on 4/19 (Sat.)! This morning, under a pleasant, partly cloudy sky, one of the park diggers (pictured) told me, “I always check your reports. The surface is a bit soft, but the park is in great shape. We’ve set up primarily beginner to intermediate features and are looking forward to welcoming everyone!”

The park currently includes a snow section, box, 10m kicker, 8m kicker, 5m tabletop, 6m tabletop, hip, PVC wall, front rail, and 7m rail. In addition, in front of Kitchen Tsuganomori, there’s a hike-up jib area with a wide box, thick PVC rail, 6m down rail, and a double down rail.

I ran into two visitors from Suzaka City and Hakuba Village (pictured) who told me, “We always check Snownavi! It’s our first time meeting you this season! We love the park at Tsugaike and come here to ride often. The snow surface is soft and slushy today, but we’re still having a great time.” On the Han-no-ki Slope, the layer of soft granular surface snow got deeper the further I skied down.

On the lower section of the Han-no-ki Slope (pictured), rapid snowmelt caused by temperatures more than 4°C above average since 4/17 (Thu.) has became quite noticeable. Snow had been gathered from other areas and groomed to the width of about one grooming machine, and although there was visible dirt on the surface that made it a bit harder to glide, I was still able to ride with confidence. By the way, a free spring backcountry gear demo event hosted by “Mountain Bloom” will be held in front of Kitchen Tsuga-no-mori this weekend, on 4/26 (Sat.) & 4/27 (Sun.), starting at 9:00 a.m.!
